Sri Lanka’s tourism industry has witnessed a remarkable resurgence, surpassing all expectations and generating a staggering 200% increase in revenue compared to the previous year. In May 2023 alone, the country’s tourism sector brought in an impressive sum of 131.5 million USD, as reported by the Central Bank, following an extensive survey conducted by the tourism promotion office. These figures mark a significant leap from the 43.5 million USD recorded in May 2022. Despite entering the off-peak season, Sri Lanka continues to experience a substantial influx of tourists, with a notable 524,486 foreign visitors gracing its shores by May. This surge in tourism not only contributes to the island’s economic recovery but also serves as a testament to its irresistible allure and growing global appeal.
This year, international visitors to the island have been embracing the opportunity for meaningful travel and indulging in a plethora of recreational activities, all while basking in the island’s year-round summer-like weather. Among the array of enticing accommodation choices, discerning travellers have been gravitating towards extraordinary options such as Aliya Resort and Spa. Esteemed as one of the premier eco-friendly resorts in Sigiriya, it has emerged as a top preference for those seeking both relaxation and rejuvenation amidst the ongoing recovery and remarkable progress of the country.
