John Keells Properties, apart from offering Ja Ela apartments such as renowned Viman Ja Ela, also focuses on giving back to the community by recognising talent in young ones. On February 2nd, John Keells Properties’ initiative with cricket legend Chamari Athapaththu wrapped up the VIMAN Street Cricket Cup 2025 at the BOI Cricket Ground in Katunayake.
This tournament aimed to foster women’s cricket at the grassroots, identifying and nurturing emerging female talent in Sri Lanka. The event provided a vital platform for schoolgirls to showcase their skills, attracting a large crowd from the Gampaha community. Matches were played in the under-16 and under-19 categories. Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, won the Under 16 title, with Nenamal Royal College, Mawaramandiya, as runners-up. In the Under 19 category, Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, secured the championship, while Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha, placed second. The enthusiastic turnout highlighted the growing momentum for women’s cricket in Sri Lanka and the importance of such platforms.
