Following the reopening of its borders this year, Thailand is offering fully vaccinated travellers, quarantine-free holidays to popular island destinations like Koh Samui. From 1st March 2022, it updated its entry requirements for the Test & Go scheme too; as part of the new regulations, on arrival, fully vaccinated tourists must take an RT-PCR test and spend their initial night at an approved SHA Extra+ hotel or resort while awaiting the result. Unlike previously, however, one does not have to spend day five at a similar approved establishment and take another RT-PCR test; instead, one must perform a self-test with an antigen test kit on day five and submit the result via a smartphone app that needs to be downloaded and used.
As an added boost, in March, the required health insurance coverage for COVID-19 treatment that tourists had to have was brought down from US$50,000 to US$20,000. With such easing of restrictions, more arrivals are expected in destinations like Koh Samui; resort options that have the required certification such as Santiburi Koh Samui offer special Test & Go packages as well, ideal for tourists planning holidays to the island.
