Initially, the festival was a celebration to commemorate the occasion when Kuching was named a city. Now, the festival acts as a tourist puller as well. The Kuching Festival will take place this year from the 29th of July to the 21st of August. Around 250 stalls are expected to be set up and an estimated 500,000 visitors are said to attend the event at Dewan Masyarakat MBKS at Jalan Padungan.
