Kuramathi Celebrates Earth Hour 2016 – Lights Out!

An event of sorts that saw the lights literally go out, but which didn’t leave guests in the dark, Earth Hour 2016 was celebrated at Kuramathi Island Resort Maldives in the latter part of the first quarter this year. This globally popular initiative launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) sees everything from homes to businesses doing their bit for conservation by turning off non-essential lighting for a period of one hour from 8.30PM to 9.30PM. In accordance with Earth Hour, this resort in Maldives also saw the main lights being put off with candles providing the necessary lighting for guests as they enjoyed a whole new experience. Amongst the highlights was the well known sperm whale skeleton which was lit up by fifty candles during this time. In keeping with their eco-friendly initiatives, the resort also participated in the recently concluded Earth Week 2016 which included clean-up dives, beach cleaning and tree planting.
