Laos Set to Hold Festival Promoting Handicrafts: Bringing Laos to the World

The 23rd Lao Handicraft Festival is set to take place from October 26th to November 3rd this year in Vientiane, coinciding with the celebration of Laos National Handicraft Day on November 1st.

The festival will also bring recognition to the country’s traditional craft of Naga motif weaving as being part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. It will also increase awareness among local communities to appreciate the diversity of local handicraft products and the immense skill of Lao artisans from across the country. By enabling the purchase and sale of these products the festival will also support government policies to alleviate poverty through the trade.

This comes at a time when Lao is actively trying to promote its tourism industry to the world through attempts to preserve the country’s natural resources and cultural heritage. Laos already provides travellers with comfortable accommodations and unique experiences including a Luang Prabang Sunset Cruise offered by the likes of Mekong Kingdoms. In addition to this, efforts like the Handicraft Festival will consequently help establish the cultural identity of Laos for international visitors.
