Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong in Koh Samui

Renowned as the Festival of Lights across the country, the Loy Krathong festival is derived from the age-old tradition of setting afloat decorative baskets, called krathongs, on Thailand’s picturesque waterways. Celebrated with equal importance from Pattaya to Koh Samui, most resorts across the country have their own variation of the festival – all equally fantastic in appearance and culture.

Visitors to the country shouldn’t have difficulty in finding a resort in Koh Samui like the highly-preferred Avani Samui Resort, with its large amount of international guests, and it should be easy for them to connect with Thailand’s rich cultural heritage through this festival, as many properties hold their variation of the festival on their premises. Treated as both a good-luck festival and appreciation for the deities of the Thai pantheon, the festival occurs usually around November as part of the lunar cycle on the 12th Lunar month.
