Loy Krathong in Thailand – A highly anticipated Thai event

Referred to by many names, the Loy Krathong festival of Thailand is a much-anticipated and looked-forward-to event in the Southeastern Asian country. A time for people to release their negative energy and collectively celebrate Loy Krathong, or Loi Krathong, is deeply rooted in Indian mythology, as over 700 years ago, this festival was a sacred occasion to venerate the deities Siva, Vishnu, and Brahma. The festival has since found its way into the traditions of Thai Buddhists during Bangkok’s early history as a means to show reverence to the Buddha and seek forgiveness from the water goddess, Phra Mae Khongkha.

Today, the festival is used to pay respects and ask for forgiveness, and it is quite popular in any place in Thailand. If you’re looking for a hotel in Hua Hin, there’s a good chance they’ll be celebrating the upcoming festival as well, wherever they are situated. Fine establishments such as the Anantara Hua Hin, set on the main Hua Hin beach, will likely participate to expose their clientele to the culture.
