Macau officially abandons tourist tax plan – Upbringing Macau tourism

The tourism industry of Macau was severely hit by the Hong Kong civil unrest first, and then by the COVID-19 pandemic as well. These situations brought down the numbers of tourist arrivals and it is assumed that every related institution, including the Macau five-star hotels, felt this impact quite badly. The government had initially decided to impose a tax on the tourists with the aim of reducing the congestion, and with the unfortunate incidents that just happened, they have again officially abandoned their plans.

However, instead of this, they will now focus on improving the urban infrastructure, and through this means, hotels the likes of Hotel Okura Macau are also expected to be benefited as such means can provide easy access to their properties for the potential visitors.
