Mackay MS Swimathon – Swimming for a Worthy Cause
An event that will look to raise funds to help those diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, the annual Mackay MS Swimathon is set to take place in the first quarter of 2017. The event is scheduled to be hosted at the Pioneer Swim Centre on 12th March and those planning to catch all the excitement can look to stay at a Mackay hotel within easy reach of the venue such as Oaks Rivermarque. The MS Swimathon in Mackay is part of a larger fundraising initiative that takes place in other Australian cities and towns as well. The rules of the event are simple: each team has to be made up of a minimum six members and should have at least one of them swimming in the pool during the relay which lasts for 12 hours. Swimmers are however allowed to use swimming aids and floatation devices except during what is known as the “Hours of Power” period. Participants are also encouraged to “dress up” in swimming costumes and have their own team themes, which add more colour and fun to this fundraiser.
