Malaysia Eyes Late Boost In Tourist Arrivals to Meet 2023 Target – A Statewide Gamble to Achieve Yearly Tourism Targets

The second half of 2023 has become a target for most tourism officials in Malaysia – as a means to hit tourism arrival targets. Authorities are now seeking to resolve issues linked to visa provision and flight connectivity as the post-COVID era begins to rear its head. Chinese tourists are highly targeted as well, and the tourism bigwigs have set 16 million foreign tourists (a 60% increase from the past year) as a benchmark, while the prime minister goes on to mention the government’s preparation to speed up visa approvals for chartered flights into the country.

This could mean that hotels, resorts, and recreational tourist offerings such as any Bukit Bintang hotel will receive a higher-than-normal percentage of visitors in the second half of 2023. The targeting of Chinese nationals could also mean that midscale brands such as the Travelodge Bukit Bintang could receive many bookings from people of this region, according to the expenditure trends.
