Seamless travel, stronger bonds – a new chapter for Sri Lanka and the Maldives
In a landmark decision to enhance regional cooperation, the Maldives will offer Sri Lankan citizens visa-free entry for up to 90 days starting July 29, 2025. The announcement was made during Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s state visit to Malé, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.
This move follows Sri Lanka’s earlier policy of granting year-long visa-free access to Maldivian nationals, highlighting a spirit of reciprocity and collaboration. For Sri Lankan travellers, the policy means easier access to the Maldives’ pristine beaches, vibrant marine life, and some of the best Maldives resorts,. including popular establishments like Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives.
The initiative aligns with both nations’ efforts to revive tourism and stimulate economic growth post-pandemic. Alongside, Sri Lanka is expanding its own visa-free program to 40 countries, broadening its appeal to global markets. Together, the two nations are setting the stage for stronger tourism flows and deeper regional ties.
