Maldivian tourism minister Ibrahim Faisal appealed to Indian tourists to continue visiting the Maldives despite an ongoing diplomatic spat between India and the Maldives. He emphasized the importance of tourism to the Maldivian economy and expressed a desire to maintain peaceful and friendly relations between the two nations. The country, which relies heavily on tourism incomes at the best Maldives all inclusive resorts, is now facing a severe drop in arrivals from India.
The Indo-Maldives spat, which began in January, saw three leaders from President Mohamed Muizzu’s government make offensive remarks about India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This led to a noticeable drop in Indian tourist arrivals, which has adversely affected the Maldivian tourism sector, such as to businesses like the OBLU Xperience Ailafushi.
