This month saw the successful completion of the eagerly awaited Maldives Pro 2023 which was billed as the Asian continent’s biggest bodyboarding event. It is part of the IBC Bodyboarding World Tour and attracted both local and international competitors; it took place from 3rd to 12th August 2023 at Varunulaa Raalhugandu in the Southeast corner of Male, the nation’s capital. Male continues to be a key destination within easy reach of private resorts like Hard Rock Hotel Maldives which are ideal for tourists and water sports enthusiasts.
This year marked the second edition of the Maldives Pro series which was previously named as the best event in the 2022 World Tour. Those who took part had the chance to take on the breaks of Varunulaa Raalhugandu which remains one of the country’s most powerful and consistent waves. Competitors could choose from the Men Open, Women Open, Junior Men and Drop Knee categories with points and prize money going to the winners. Not surprisingly, in a destination surrounded by the ocean, bodyboarding is not the only exhilarating water sport you can enjoy here; things to do near Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, for example, include kneeboarding, jet-skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing and kitesurfing to name a few.
