Maldives Reaches One Million Visitor Milestone for 2026
A significant achievement highlighting the continued appeal of the Maldives on the global travel stage
The Maldives has recorded its one millionth visitor of 2026, marking an important milestone for the nation’s tourism industry. The landmark arrival was Almudena Esparza from Spain, who visited the island nation with her husband for their first-ever Maldivian holiday.
The couple arrived via Qatar Airways and were welcomed during a special ceremony at Velana International Airport. Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen described the achievement as a positive sign for the industry, particularly as the destination continues to navigate challenges linked to regional instability and changing travel patterns.
Officials noted that reaching the one-million-visitor mark demonstrates the resilience of the tourism sector and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen international connectivity and attract more travellers. The government remains focused on its target of welcoming 2.5 million visitors this year through continued collaboration across the industry.
As travellers explore accommodation options ranging from guesthouses to luxury resorts such as Kuda Villingili Resort Maldives, interest in rewarding holiday offers in Maldives is expected to support future tourism growth.
