Maldives Tourism Sees Strong Summer Surge Despite Slight Decline – Summer Bliss in the Maldives

The Maldives has welcomed over 44,000 tourists this summer, as the Ministry of Tourism reported. Although this represents a slight drop from last year, with a 2.5% decrease compared to 45,200 arrivals in the same period the previous year, the destination remains highly popular. From June 1 to June 12, Velana International Airport recorded a steady influx of tourists, averaging 3,700 daily with a typical stay of seven days.

The total number of visitors since January 2024 has reached approximately 936,300, reflecting a 9.6% increase from the previous year. The Maldives continues to thrive under its ‘One Island, One Resort’ model, with new hotels and resorts like Coco Bodu Hithi, an elegantly designed luxury villa in the Maldives, boosting the hospitality sector and drawing more investors. Tourism remains a critical economic driver, contributing about 25% to the nation’s GDP.
