Easier Mainland Access: New Visa Rules for Non-Chinese Hong Kong Residents

Beijing is easing visa rules to better integrate Hong Kong and Macau into mainland China, allowing non-Chinese residents to travel more easily. From the 10th of July, long-term non-Chinese residents of Hong Kong can apply for a five-year travel permit. Previously, only Chinese residents of Hong Kong could use faster immigration channels with a ‘Home Return Permit’. The new permit allows non-Chinese residents to use self-service immigration gates.

Unlike the current trial for visa-free entry for certain nationalities, this permit is available to all nationalities and industries. Applicants can apply through the China Travel Service, and successful applicants can travel between Hong Kong and mainland China for up to 90 days per visit over five years without needing additional visas. However, this permit does not allow holders to work, study, or engage in activities like news gathering in mainland China, which require other specific visas. They can, however, enjoy their holidays without any issue, which includes exciting stays at Tsim Sha Tsui hotels the likes of Park Hotel Hong Kong.
