Maldives Witnesses Surge in Russian Tourist Arrivals – Over 180,000 Visitors in 2023

The Maldives, the picturesque Indian Ocean archipelago, has seen a notable influx of Russian tourists in 2023, with more than 180,000 visitors from Russia exploring the tropical paradise, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Tourism. Russians now constitute approximately 11.5% of the total foreign tourist arrivals in the Maldives since the beginning of the year.

The Ministry of Tourism in the Maldives highlights the seamless travel process for Russian nationals, who only require their “foreign” passport (in addition to their “domestic” passports for use within Russia) for visa-free entry into the country. This convenience allows them to enjoy a visa-free stay for up to 90 days, contributing to the popularity of the Maldives as a preferred destination for Russian travellers. Thanks to this leeway, resorts like Ozen Reserve Bolifushi have seen more demand for their private villa in Maldives offering luxurious comforts for guests including a private pool. The increase in Russian tourists takes the Maldives closer to their 3.5 million goal for 2028.
