Marking the Islamic New Year with Muharram – The most exciting time!

The Islamic New Year is celebrated on a grand scale by all Muslims worldwide. The New Year falls on the 31st of August this year, and the festivities will go on until the 28th of September. This period is called the Muharram, the second most significant event of the Islamic calendar, called the lunar Hijri calendar. Muharram commences upon seeing the new moon on the final day of this calendar.

Sunni and Shia Muslims celebrate the Muharram differently as they mark important events for both. Many Muslims fast on the 10th day of the Muharram, also called Ashura. Businessmen who fly to the Middle East and stay at an Oman business hotel the likes of Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort which is a popular choice among many tourists, also get to witness the celebrations in grand style!
