Maslenitsa Russian Festival – Celebrating Russian Culture in London

A celebration of Russian culture, the Maslenitsa Russian Festival took place in London from 8th to 15th February, 2015. This annual festival saw a wide range of events, concerts and performances taking place at venues across the capital and those planning to catch next year’s festivities can look to stay at a centrally located luxury hotel London has to offer such as Halkin by COMO London.

Held to mark the coming of spring, this festival is a combination of Russian Orthodox religious celebrations with an older traditional festival. This year’s festival was held for a week as opposed to the usual one day event and featured everything from musical concerts to Russian food. The Maslenitsa Russian Festival 2015 began with a performance of St. Matthew Passion which saw the collaboration of the Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev Moscow Synodal Choir and the Russian Orchestra of London, while the last day of the festival was celebrated with a Maslenitsa concert performance by several Russian ensembles.
