Melbourne and Sydney Have Both Been Named in the World’s Top Four Most Liveable Cities for 2023: A Statement From Australia

Between 2010 and 2017, Melbourne held the prestigious title of the world’s most liveable city. In 2023, Melbourne retained its reputation as the most liveable city in Australia, according to the annual Global Liveability Index by The Economist Intelligence Unit, ranking third globally. Sydney, its longstanding local rival, secured the fourth position.

This perpetual debate between the two cities now gains fresh fuel, while also earning international recognition for Australia’s urban appeal, alongside an appreciation for the quality of life Down Under. Notably, Canada topped the list with three cities in the top ten, with Switzerland securing two spots.
