Mid-Autumn Festival 2019 – The Harvest and Children’s Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival 2019 will fall on the 14th and 15th of September 2019. It is celebrated as both the harvest and the children’s festival which originally began centuries ago as an event to celebrate the end of the rice harvest.

Families use this to spend some quality time with their children, celebrate a good yield and honour the moon. This tradition is very closely observed in Hoi An and is a sight to see. There are big processions at nighttime with children carrying decorative paper lanterns, dragon dancers and fire-breathing! It is a riotous affair and one of the best things to do in Hoi An.

If travellers are planning to visit Hoi An in the autumn, timing the visit to coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival and staying at a nearby hotel like Anantara Hoi An Resort will ensure the whole family gets to enjoy this ancient tradition to the fullest.
