It was recently announced that multiple countries will be granted visa-free entry for over six months beginning from the first of April 2019. The announcement came shortly after cabinet ministers approved the proposal put forward by John Amaratunga, the minister of Tourism development, wildlife Life and Christian Religious Affairs. The suggested proposal suggests granting 6-month free visa periods for selected countries. The Government representatives stated that this move will work towards boosting the tourism industry on the island.
Many local and international hotel chains along with tour operators such as the likes of Silvertree Travel known to offer great Sri Lanka holiday packages will enjoy great occupancy and sales rates. The following countries will be eligible for visa-free entry; UK, Australia, United States, South Korea, Canada, Newzealand, Singapore, Malaysia, countries of the European Union.
