Myanmar Sees Rise in Tourist Arrivals

The tourism industry in Myanmar has been getting back on track with the resumption of global travel and the country is seeing a rise in international arrivals. As revealed by the nation’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, in February this year, the country recorded 50,181 tourists which was a significant increase of 288% when compared with the same period in 2022. Last year, Myanmar welcomed 233,487 foreign visitors and it will be hoped that this figure will be well exceeded by the end of 2023.

Amongst the positive signs for tourism recovery is the resumption and launch of flights to global destinations. India continues to be a key source market for the country and thus it’s not surprising that Myanmar Airways launched direct non-stop flights connecting Yangon and the Indian city of Chennai on 6th May 2023. Special airfares and benefits were also offered with this new connection including those for business and medical travellers, pilgrims, and diplomats.
