Nallur Annual Festival in Jaffna, Sri Lanka – Paying homage to Lord Murugan

The Nallur Festival in Jaffna ended in September with an estimated 300,000 pilgrims per day, visiting the sacred Hindu temple. The festival, which covers 25 days of ceremonies, rituals and processions, saw thousands travel to the northern city of Jaffna to pay homage to the Hindu deity, Lord Murugan at the famed Nallur Kandaswamy temple. Buses and trains have been busy running between Colombo and Jaffna to transport devotees between the two cities. Car rental in Sri Lanka has also seen an increase with respected companies like Casons Rent a Car for example, a popular choice among those who wish to travel to the north on their own. A special market was set up near the temple premises with stalls providing food and refreshments as well as shelter from the scorching sun.
