Nallur Annual Festival in Jaffna, Sri Lanka – offerings and prayers for Lord Muragan

The annual Nallur Festival for the year 2016 successfully drew to close in September, with an estimated 300,000 devotees visiting the sacred Hind temple, per day. During the 25 day festival, thousands of pilgrims travel to the city of Jaffna to worship the Hindu deity, Lord Murugan at the Nallur Kandaswamy temple. During the festival, most Jaffna Hotels like the recently opened Jetwing Jaffna are fully occupied are pilgrims gather here from around the island; this includes many expatriates who, along with the local communities, attended various the ceremonies and processions that take place both morning and evening. Temporary stalls were set up at a special market near the temple premises to provide food, beverages and also shade from the sweltering weather. The next festival of Nallur temple will take place in 2017.
