New Regulations Lead to Decline in Road Accidents in Yala

A positive development after the implementation of new regulations, Yala National Park in Sri Lanka has seen a decline in road accidents which in the past had led to the deaths of several animals. The reduction of accidents at the park was recently announced by the Wildlife Department and was linked to the new regulations along with the implementation of strict punishment to reckless drivers. Such strict measures had to be put into place after speeding motorists within the park knocked down and killed wildlife including Yala’s most famous resident, the Sri Lankan Leopard. Among the new measures that were put into place was the increase of police patrols in the park, the deployment of a mobile patrol and the blocking of signals for mobile phones at Yala since text alerts of animal sightings had often led drivers to recklessly speed to certain areas. Travellers to this national park have the option of staying at a Yala safari hotel in the area which organises safaris for guests such as WildTrails Yala which belongs to Theme Resorts & Spas.
