New tourism zones to be gazetted soon in Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka: a tourist-friendly destination

The Tourism Minister in Sri Lanka recently declared that the country is on a mission to generate USD 10 billion in revenue from the tourism industry by the end of 2025. He added that the government and the tourism ministry have taken all necessary steps already to make this happen.

He also added that areas such as Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Passikudah, Kalpitiya, Yala, Bentota, and Arugam Bay will be included in the list of tourism zones in the country. They will be developed in terms of infrastructure and this proposal has already been submitted to the parliament. Hotels and villas in Sri Lanka in these areas such as those offered like Boutique Collection by Amaya will also be benefitted through these initiatives while the local community will also be able to reap indirect advantages. In the second phase, areas such as Deniyaya will be included in the list for further development.
