New Year Sees Boost for Sri Lanka Tourism – Promising Signs of Recovery

Tourism in Sri Lanka received a much-needed boost as 2022 began with increased visitor arrivals despite the prevalence of the omicron COVID-19 variant of the pandemic overseas. In the first ten days of the year, the country recorded nearly 30,000 visitors largely from India, Russia, Germany, Ukraine and the UK. This bodes well for the island nation as it looks to achieve one million arrivals in 2022 which it has also named “Visit Sri Lanka Year”.

Amongst the allures for tourists to visit is that fully vaccinated travellers can enjoy quarantine-free entry, don’t have to submit to an on-arrival PCR test and have unrestricted access to key destinations like Kalutara; beach resort options such as the ‘Safe and Secure’ certified Avani Kalutara Resort have also adopted stringent hygiene protocols and enhanced levels of sanitation, so guests can have peace of mind on their stay.
