Novel COVID-19 Breath Test Approved in Singapore – Trial Run in Progress

In May 2021, Singapore approved the use of a COVID-19 breath test that detects and offers accurate results, just one minute after being administered. A start-up of the National University of Singapore known as Breathonix is credited for developing the novel BreFence Go COVID-19 breath test system. Initially, it’s being used for travellers arriving from Malaysia and those who test positive will have to undergo a PCR swab test to confirm the result.

If the trial run proves successful, the breath test could become more widely used and be a key part in kick-starting increased inbound travel. Singapore has already taken great strides in dealing with the pandemic with strict protocols and ongoing vaccination drives in place.
