Nyepi Day 2015 in Bali – Unique New Year Celebrations

A New Year celebration with a difference, Nyepi Day in Bali is set to take place on 21st March, 2015. Amongst the unique features of this festival is that it is considered the quietest day on the island as locals do not engage in any activities what so ever. However the days preceding and following Nyepi Day are known for their cultural festivities and pageantry that are linked with Bali’s rich culture. Those planning to travel to Indonesia and witness this festival have a number of properties on the island to choose from including those in the Nusa Dua area such as the Starwood Indonesia resort here. Highlights of this special festival include the traditions that can be seen in the days leading up to Nyepi Day including the creation of “ogoh-ogoh” which is a kind of effigy made from papier-mâché and what are known as Melasti pilgrimages which are vibrant processions.
