A festival that appreciates winter more than any other is the one celebrated in Obihiro. Known as Obihiro Koori Matsuri, this ice festival focuses on the talents of sculptors. On this day Midorigaoko Park is transformed into an enchanting site where imaginations have been brought to life! This will be the same from the 1st to the 3rd of February in 2019 too.
During these 3 days, over 50 ice sculptures will be lit up and displayed at the venue. These works of art are enormous and very detailed in creativity too. There will be ice slides too where kids can have plenty of fun. Maybe a snowball fight or 2 will do them some good as well. If you plan on visiting in time for this festival, there are many an Otaru hotel near Jr station such as the well-known Grand Park Otaru for your convenience.
