Otaru will come aglow starting on the 8th of February 2019, as the city is mystically decked with lights and snow statues for almost 10 days. Although the festivities take place in all parts of Otaru, there are two distinct venues which offer the best experience, Unga Kaijo area, and the Temiyasen Kaijo area. The place will be lit up and open to visitors from 5 pm to 9 pm.
All the residents in Otaru will decorate their dwellings and shop entrances as well. If you happen to be in Otaru in February, do visit the 2 special venues for an unforgettable experience. The main attraction, the Otaru Canal, is just a short drive away from Grand Park Otaru and many an Otaru hotel near Jr station. The perfect way to soak in happenings of the festival is to take a relaxed stroll and savour the sparkling winter ambience heavily present in the surroundings.
