Gateway Real Estate Africa, an African developer based in Mauritius, is planning to develop hospitals that will draw medical tourists; this was highlighted on the website of LaingBuisson, a business intelligence provider, on 9th December 2021. Also brought to light was that this developer was investing around US$54 million to build an oncology hospital in Coromandel as well as the multi-speciality St Helene Artemis Hospital in the town of Curepipe.
Gateway Real Estate Africa hopes that such developments will attract international visitors seeking quality and specialised medical treatments and will help to diversify the tourism industry as well. It should be noted that in Mauritius, resorts already promote wellness retreats which are amongst the key allures here. Luxury properties like Anantara Iko Mauritius Resort & Villas not only feature a spa but special wellness programmes and traditional holistic rituals along with yoga and meditation.
