The world renowned Phuket King’s Cup Regatta returned once again to the serene waters of the Andaman Ocean on the 30th of November and continued till the 6th of December with much pomp and pageantry. The event is a must attend if you’re on holiday in Phuket and staying at Phangan Resorts like the Anantara Phuket Villas, as it you will not only get to see a spectacular display of sailing but also participate in a host of celebrations that include musical performances, traditional Thai dancing and glamorous parties. The festival inaugurated in 1987 to celebrate the 60th birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand, had a candle-lighting ceremony held in front of the Boathouse Resort on Kata Beach as part of the birthday celebrations. Around 86 yachts from 18 countries were said to have participated at the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta 2014 that was preceded by a massive banquet and ended with vigorous partying and celebrations.
