Ramadan Next Month in the Maldives – The Holy Month of Fasting Begins

The holiest month in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan begins next month and will be observed by Muslim communities and countries like the Maldives. The dates are decided according to the lunar calendar and this year, it will commence on 23rd March 2023 and will culminate in the Eid al Fitr festival on 21st April 2023. This month commemorates the time that the Islamic faithful believe that the Holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by Allah through the Angel Gabriel. Each day during this month, Muslims will fast from dawn to sunset, engage in prayer and perform charitable acts.

When the fasting period ends each day, it’s customary for families to gather and share a meal consisting of traditional Maldivian dishes like rihakuru bondi, hedhikaa, roshi and fathu mashuni. Tourists visiting during this time and staying at the top resorts in Maldives including private island properties like Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi have much to enjoy as well. Such properties are also known to serve everything from delectable Ramadan buffets to traditional festive treats and organise special events too.
