Reimagining travel: Thailand tourism after the COVID-19 – A new look at travel and hospitality

International tourism is one of the main sources of income for Thailand, which, with the emergence of COVID-19, ceased to be the case for a while. However, with the vaccine, even though the world is still dealing with the variants of the virus, Thailand started allowing fully vaccinated travellers back into the country.

In 2019, Thailand saw 40 million travellers, making the country one of the most visited destinations in the world. When the number plummeted in 2020 in response to travel restrictions, Thailand’s tourism industry was paralysed. However, the country is beginning to come out of the shadow of the pandemic by letting travellers back into the country, which started on the 1st of November. Domestic travel is being encouraged with luxury hotels in Phuket offering various discounts and other benefits for Thai residents, and hospitality establishments like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort are once again being searched online by both leisure and business travellers. Safety measures are in place, and the government is doing everything it can to make sure that the travellers remain safe while in Thailand, setting an example for other travel destinations.
