Reopening of the Maldives Tourism Sector

Resorts Also Begin to Operate

As of 15th July 2020, the Maldives was opened for tourism after months of travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. Coinciding with this move was the systematic opening of private island luxury hotels and resorts in Maldives. Water villa and beach villa options continue to be available for travellers looking to once again travel to this popular Indian Ocean destination.

Additionally, all resorts including properties like Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas have strict health protocols in place while also keeping to the hygiene certification programme that has been issued by the Ministry of Tourism. According to the plan put in place, resorts will continue to open in phases and most are expected to be in operation by the end of October. It is hoped that tourists will continue to arrive as airlines begin to fly to the Maldives, while the Tourism Ministry is expecting to draw around 900,000 visitors by the end of 2020.
