Russian Tourist Boom in Sri Lanka During Winter Season: More Tourist Arrivals Anticipated

With Sri Lanka undergoing one of the worst economic crises ever encountered, international tourist arrivals have been of pivotal interest. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, from November 1-24, the country welcomed 45,560 tourists with 11,041 of them being Russian with Indians and British tourists closely following the list, each amounting to 8,075 and 3,569 visitors respectively. According to the reports, most of these tourists are also making their way to the southern parts of the island like Ahangama, Weligama, Matara, Tangalle, and Unawatuna which cater to the middle-market family and younger crowd.

Whilst luring travelers from the European and American markets has been at the top of the agenda of the Sri Lanka tourism board, the current financial crisis in Europe has impacted its efforts. However, with the addition of regular winter scheduled flights such as Aeroflot, Azur Air, Edelweiss, Swiss Air, Jazeera, and Air France, Sri Lanka is expecting that more and more tourists will travel to Sri Lanka and arrange their excursions around the island using tips offered by travel guides like Truly Sri Lanka.
