Severe fines suggested for those who break COVID rules in Siem Reap – Mask up or pay up!

The Provincial Governor of Siem Reap has declared that wearing masks will be made mandatory for all people with immediate effect. COVID 19 hit hard in Cambodia recently and this created the need to remind the basic safety tips to its society. Safety measures such as wearing masks and not joining large gatherings were already in place, but people seemed to have taken them lightly.

Therefore, the ‘masks up or pay up’ policy has been now introduced where severe fines will be imposed on anyone who breaches the rules. These rules will also apply to foreign travellers who stay at any boutique hotel in Siem Reap the likes of Anantara Angkor Resort and also when they step out of their resorts too. The Governor also has stated that he will be considering re-opening the markets and shopping malls in the near future.
