The annual Shwedagon Pagoda Festival will take place at the end of this month; this coincides with the full moon of “Tabaung”, the final month of the country’s traditional calendar. This year, the event falls on 27th March 2021 and will continue for around 10 days after. The focal point of the festival is the revered Shwedagon Pagoda which is located close to properties like Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon. Those visiting the city and staying at such a hotel Yangon has to offer, can easily access the site and witness the various religious and cultural traditions.
The Shwedagon Pagoda Festival remembers the day on which King Okkalapa is said to have enshrined sacred hair relics of Lord Buddha in Shwedagon Pagoda. During the festival period, one can see monks and devotees at the pagoda reciting scripture, making offerings and as customary, walking clockwise around the central stupa.
