Significant Q1 Growth for Dubai Taxi Sector – Public Transport Use Also Increases

As reported on ArabianBusiness.com in May this year, the Dubai taxi sector has seen a significant 6% growth in the first quarter of this year. According to official statistics, it recorded as many as 27.3 million trips during the first three months of 2023 which continued the upward trend seen in the last few years. Another noteworthy aspect is that this number was even more than pre-Covid levels, with the first quarter of 2019 having registered 26.1 million trips. Amongst the high-growth areas in this sector, this year have been Hala Taxi, smart rental, and e-hail services.

Interestingly, the use of public transport has also seen a rise in numbers including during the Eid Al Adha holidays. As highlighted on ArabianBusiness.com on 3rd July 2023, public transport services which included public buses, trams and the Dubai Metro helped transport over six million passengers in this period; the total encompassed taxis and shared transport as well. This final figure was a 14% increase when compared with the same period in 2022. During Eid Al Adha 2023, the highest number of passengers were experienced by the Dubai Metro which continues to be a popular choice for locals as well as tourists based at hotels in Dubai; Deira is one of the key locations where travellers can stay at properties like Avani Deira Dubai Hotel which is walking distance from metro stations as well.
