With the increasing number of Omicron patients in Langkawi, those in the tourism industry are still facing a challenge with tourist arrivals not growing in recent months. The destination was opened to fully vaccinated tourists last year. Despite this, the number of tourists arriving in the country has not yet reached the desired effect.
Langkawi Tourist Guide Association president mentioned that the tourist arrivals since the country reopened are just 15% of what Langkawi had seen before the pandemic. Most travellers staying at hotels like Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa were to have been from Germany, US, Australia and Indonesia. The best resort in Langkawi hopes to see an increase in the occupancy rate soon as the country begins to shift out of the pandemic.
