Enhancing connectivity for smoother seasonal journeys across Sri Lanka
A new expressway bus initiative has been introduced from Pettah, offering improved connectivity to Kandy and Galle as part of efforts to manage rising seasonal travel demand. Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena announced that the service has been launched to support smoother passenger movement during peak travel periods.
At present, approximately 20 buses are operating on the Pettah–Kandy route under temporary permits, helping to reduce congestion and improve accessibility for long-distance travellers. The enhanced network is expected to make intercity travel more efficient and convenient via the expressway.
The service also improves accessibility to key destinations in Kandy, including stays at Kandy Myst by Cinnamon, while also supporting demand across the wider hospitality sector, particularly 4 star hotels in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
