Sri Lanka and Thailand Join to Promote Buddhist Heritage – Sharing a Rich History

Sri Lanka and Thailand have agreed to promote the Buddhist heritage that is part of the rich culture of both these nations. This statement was made on the occasion of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s recent visit to Thailand where he met with the Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha. Theravada Buddhism is a major component of local life and religion, while also being a part of each country’s history.

In Sri Lanka for example, key Buddhist temples can be found across the island ranging from the Abhayagiri Vihara in Anuradhapura to the Kalutara Chaitya; the latter has become a popular tourist attraction as well with several hotels in Kalutara including the likes of Anantara Kalutara Resort located within easy reach. The promotion of the Buddhist heritage of Thailand and Sri Lanka will undoubtedly not only increase visitors to the country but provide people with a greater understanding and appreciation of Buddhism too.
