Under the direction of Dileep Mudadeniya of John Keells Holdings, the Sri Lankan government established a 14-member Tourism Advisory Committee that includes prominent figures from the leisure industry. The committee includes Richard Nuttall, the CEO of SriLankan Airlines; Gerard George Ondaatjie, the Deputy Chairman/Managing Director of Nuwara Eliya Hotels Company; Chandra Wickramasinghe, the Chairman/Managing Director of Connaissance de Ceylon and Thema Collection; Nihal Muhandiram, the Group Vice President of Galle Face Hotels; and three heads of state tourism agencies.
This strategic movement will aim to improve places like the Eastern coast, renowned for its beauty. For instance, discovering the appealing places to visit in Pasikuda, with its idyllic beaches, could see significant promotion. Furthermore, quality establishments such as Amethyst Resort, nestled in such promising locations, stand to benefit from a revitalised tourism landscape. This industry-government partnership shows a concerted effort to increase Sri Lanka’s appeal as a travel destination worldwide.
