Sri Lanka confident of USD 500 mn in tourism revenue through March 2022 – A hopeful future for the industry

The embattled tourism industry in Sri Lanka has been barely surviving since the emergence of the lockdown laws. Sri Lanka, an island nation known for its diverse culture and charming coastline, has been one of the many casualties of the pandemic. However, things are about to take a positive note.

The country lifted the lockdown, allowing vaccinated travellers into the country without the quarantine requirement so long as they produce a negative PCR test taken within three days prior to arrival. Also, the UK decided to remove Sri Lanka from its travel Red List, which has given rise to the number of British travellers to Sri Lanka. On account of these positive developments, the country predicts a USD 500 million tourism revenue before this financial year is over and expects the monthly number of tourist arrivals to go up to 50,000. If these predictions come to pass, Sri Lanka hotels, that have been struggling to keep afloat, will be back in business, and accommodation providers like Amaya Resorts & Spas will once again be a choice selection for tourists.
