Carrying on from the gradual tourism recovery of last year, Sri Lanka continues to welcome travellers from around the world. From 1st October 2021, several restrictions were eased with fully vaccinated tourists being offered quarantine-free entry and no on-arrival PCR test; they do however have to show a negative result of a PCR test conducted within 72 hours of their departure to the island. For such travellers heading to Sri Lanka, hotels that are certified as “Safe & Secure” provide ideal accommodation options. These include properties of hospitality brands like Amaya Resorts & Spas that adhere to stringent health and safety protocols.
The country is also promoting the destination through various campaigns to further increase arrivals. As highlighted on the Daily FT news website last December, the government has declared 2022 as being “Visit Sri Lanka Year” and has a Global Communication Campaign in place; it’s hoped that this five-year integrated campaign will bring six million tourists by 2025 and generate income amounting to approximately $10 billion.
