As a means in which to help promote the country during these troubled times, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) has enlisted the help of travel influencers to reach a global audience. This was highlighted on the official Sri Lanka Tourism website this October; it further revealed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, these influencers generated more than 500 posts be it on blogs or social media platforms reaching an audience of up to six million people.
These key influencers included those that visited in February 2020 as part of a special Travel Influencer Campaign. By recreating and reposting some of the content and amazing experiences, they provided an invaluable marketing tool reminding people to travel to Sri Lanka when the country’s international borders open once more. With local sites like Truly Sri Lanka also highlighting the best there is on offer, it will be hoped that tourists will once again flock to the island when it is safe to travel.
