Sri Lanka Focuses on Tourism Recovery – Targets US$ 800 Million Tourist Earnings

With the country’s borders having reopened, Sri Lanka is looking to get tourism back on track. This month, at the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators, it was announced that the island nation is targeting to achieve 800,000 to 850,000 arrivals in 2022; tourism earnings for this year are expected to be around US$ 800 million while a short-term plan up to March 2023 has also been thought of.

While several destination promotion initiatives are also planned, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is expected to host roadshows in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai this month too. With the country providing quarantine-free holidays, tourists can enjoy the best it has to offer once more be it at hotels along the east coast or colonial bungalows in Kandy including the likes of Mountbatten Bungalow; such accommodation providers are certified ‘Safe & Secure’ with enhanced health and hygiene measures in place as well.
